Problem with a new disc

Featured Replies

Hello

I just installed a new disk (I just buy it) and I have the following problem:

- At startup it is well recognized as a new drive, disk9

ER1.jpg

- I click on the button [Clear]

ER2.jpg

- The process begins

ER3.jpg

- He seems to be going well

ER4.jpg

...

ER9.jpg

- But at the end of the process, the disc is not affected

ER10.jpg

I was able to format the disk in NTFS without any error

In advance thank you for your help

Louis

Disk dropped offline during clearing, could be bad cables or bad disk, SMART report could help narrow it down.

The problem is that unRAID no longer sees the drive

What Windows utility used to test the drive?

The problem is that unRAID no longer sees the drive

What Windows utility used to test the drive?

If the drive is not seen even after a reboot then it may well have really failed.

In terms of testing a disk under Windows you want to go to the manufacturers site and use their test/diagnostic software.

  • Author

When I reboot the disk is seen

  • Author

Under Disk Management of unmenu:

- Shorts smart test

- Long smart test

What test do?

SMART report would be enough for now, don't remember how to get them using Unmenu, if you don't see it do a short test and post results.

SMART looks fine,  if you can change cables/backplane and retry adding it, if it fails again it's probably a bad disk.

Alternatively,  you can preclear the new disk, this way the array will remain available and it better tests the disk.

preclear ?

All my discs are in racks

Does moving one of the array disk in the rack where the new disk has problems, it will cause the array reconstruction ?

I might as well test if a cable problem

V5 and above tracks disk by serial number,  no problem moving slots.

  • Author

Ok, I'll try it tomorrow

Thanks for your help

Louis

  • Author

I placed the disc in another rack and I have the same problem

It appears that the disc is in question

How to determine what the problem is?

Louis

Probably a bad disk, you can do an extended SMART test to confirm.

  • Author

I'll test a long SMART test

What is the maximum size of disk the Version 5 can support ? 3, 4, 5 or 6 To ?

Louis

What is the maximum size of disk the Version 5 can support ? 3, 4, 5 or 6 To ?

Not sure that there is a known maximum.    It is certainly a lot more than the maximum current size for disk drives.

After the long SMART test
