February 9, 201610 yr I need to replace my current media server built in 2007 with a quieter, cooler, more up-to-date machine with capacity for more drives. The technical requirements are simple, to be used mostly for backup and media repository running UnRAID with Plex docker and a couple of basic plugins. If available, I'd prefer to start with a pre-tested barebones kit with case, power supply and motherboard already integrated: The case needs to be quiet and have good ventilation for efficient cooling Easy access to drives and expansion slots, with capacity for at least 8 3.5" drives and a couple 2.5" drives The power supply must be quiet and powerful enough to supply power for 8 hard drives or more The drives I currently use are HGST Deskstar NAS 3.5" 7200RPM SATA III drives; I plan to keep using the same product line in the future The motherboard must provide fairly standard features, nothing crazy since it will not be used for gaming or processor-intensive tasks The CPU socket will need to accommodate an Intel i3 or i5 or equivalent AMD processor If a pre-tested barebones kit with these features is not available, I'd appreciate suggestions for components that are compatible with each other and can provide these requirements. Thanks!

February 12, 201610 yr Probably not getting many hits because there are loads and loads of threads about this all over the internet and on these forums. If you're looking for specific suggestions, check out https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcforme They do exactly what you're asking and suggest parts and all that.
February 12, 201610 yr Nobody? Am I asking for something too difficult to find, or not providing enough information? Any guidance on this matter will be greatly appreciated, thanks! There's a ton of discussion on these boards about server building, but very little (in my experience) related to pre-tested barebones kits. You could easily find or get recommendations on each component here but I don't know off-hand where to direct you for full kits. I know NewEgg does some of that...
February 12, 201610 yr I really like my ITX build (in my sig) but it might be just barely too small for your requirements. You might check Newegg for some of their combo deals. They're not really "kits" but are discounted bundles that can be expected to work together. Another very good resource for building your own is pcpartpicker. And of course, there are lots of ideas in the unRAID Compulsive Design subforum where people post their builds including photos.
