Rosewill RSV-L4500 4U Rackmount Chassis with 15 Internal Bays (US/INTL)

Featured Replies

Ran across this on Ebay while looking for replacement case.  10% off for another 12 hours bringing it to $89.99 with free shipping to US, ships to multiple countries as well.  Looks to be a decent inexpensive case based on reviews at several sites with large drive capacity for those not concerned with hot/external swap capability.

EDIT:  Found walk-through of the case on YouTube.

This is actually a pretty good case, It's been housing my current unRAID build for the last 3 years.

It only has one real drawback and that is the handles.  They are exceedingly large, and made it impossible to close the door on my rack, (Though I am using an AV rack).  I had to remove the handles, but the problem is the hinged door is built into the handles, so the whole front door had to come off as well.

Still a great cheap case, with TONS of cooling.

Is it possible to stick 5x3 cages in the 3 front bays?

Or are the bays specifically designed to only take 3.5" HDs?

The manual shows what the cages look like that come with it.  I've read in the past the Rosewill 4x3 cages can be swapped in so might be possible.

I couldn't tell you for sure as I never have tried it.  I do however have a 5in3 iStar coming this week for the center of my new Norco RPC-470.  I'll give it a test in the Rosewill and let you know how things end up.

Nice case, I was ready to push the buy button but then notice that there is no back plane. I guess the back plane is what makes them expensive.

You can get the RSV4512 for ~$200 with 12 hotswap bays

Opened up my Rosewill RSV-L4500 this past weekend to start gutting it for the Dual Xeon I just set up.  You can definitely pull the stock HDD racks and get your 5in3's in there.  You may have to drill some holes to secure, but don't quote me on that.

Still a good case, and after looking it over I can see i will fit an SSI EEB motherboard.  My second Dual Xeons may end up in this case...
