February 18, 201610 yr First Note: I did a search on here and didn't quite find what I was looking for. So I am currently right now manually backing up stuff across my network manually. I am looking to do this more of an automated way. Also I have a server at a CoLo for "off site" backup and I have full control over data/machine. That I am using as a "Mounted Disk" on my windows machines to move files back and forward. Any Ideas?
February 18, 201610 yr There are lots of discussions about backup options, maybe it would help to know what you've ruled out and why? Personally, I would use Crashplan. Install it on both ends and backup from one computer to the other for no cost. And/or pay $5/mo and back it up to the Crashplan cloud too. There is a great docker for it here.
February 18, 201610 yr Author I've looked at crashplan but how does it store the data when going from computer to computer? I know the transaction is encrypted. But what about the data?
February 18, 201610 yr Yes, Crashplan encrypts the data itself, whether you store it on another computer or in the Crashplan cloud. If you lose your encryption key your data is gone. https://www.code42.com/crashplan/features/compare/ https://support.code42.com/CrashPlan/4/Configuring/Archive_Encryption_Key_Security
February 18, 201610 yr Author That is just it. The server it self is encrypted. I don't need the software to encrypt the files also. I know it sounds stupid but like the way I have it now I can easily take the server out and replace it with my home backup and won't know a difference.
February 18, 201610 yr Ah, so you are building a hot spare. No, Crashplan isn't right for that. You probably want to look into rsync.
