[Solved] How to map user shares on Windows 10 VM?

Featured Replies

I have just installed Windows 10 VM on my unRAID system. In the network portion of the File Explorer I am unable to see any of my unRAID user shares. According to the tutorial I have created a user data share to store any data created on the Windows 10 VM on the array instead of on the VM. I cannot map the drive though because I cannot access it on the network. When I click browse only the Windows VM (Desktop) appears.

Thank you.

Set up the network bridge in unraid's network settings and set the vm to use it like it says in the tutorial.

On the unRAID side I have a public bridge enabled the br0. For the Windows side I installed the driver for the device manager items including the network interface. I can see the Plex Server in media devices, but the other user shares do not appear. Looking at the VM wiki support page I know that I want the public bridge that I have selected. Still I cannot see my unRAID box or any of the shares I have setup on it other than Plex. On my Mac I can see the NAS drive that holds all of my user shares when I open it up.

What shows up if you put \\ip.address.of.unraid\ into the file browser?

That did it. When I entered it into the file browser the window populated with the user shares and on the navigation menu on the left the ip address of the unRAID box popped in under network. From there I was able to map the network drive. Thanks for the assist.

Hi! I have the same problem, and when I type the ip in the file browser my shares pop up but they do not do so in the navigation menu on the left and the unRAID box does not pop in under network :( So I am still not able to map to the network. Any help would be really appreciated! :)

The latest versions of Windows have all sorts of quirks that can stop SMB shares automatically appearing via the Network Neighborhood.

Since you can see the shares via the IP address then at this point there are two options that can work well:

  • Right click on the share and select the option to map it as a network drive. Use this option if you want the shares to appear under the list of drives.
  • Right click and select the option to add it to the Quick Access menu.  Select this option if you want easy access without treating them as a drive.

Thank you so much! I figured it out! Sadly I had to type out the address, but it worked! Each share drive has to be mapped to a different letter it seems. Wish the entire array would just be mapped to one letter haha. I doubt there is a way, right?

You rock though!

Yes - the fact that each share would use a drive letter is one disadvantage of that method.   Going the route of adding entries to the Quick Access menu can sometimes be better if you have a lot of shares.

Hi I am having this issue as well.  I have the necessary share set to export and it still fails to so in the windows 10 vm.  I have followed what this thread states but can't figure it out. Please help

map a new network drive in explorer and type in //unraidtowerIPaddress/(name of share folder)

**

\\unraidtowerIPaddress\(name of share folder)

This is what I got when I typed that in.

User root is not allowed access to user shares.

I had to create a new user to successfully login but this is where I got to
