Multifunction Printer / Scanner Setup?

Featured Replies

Hey All!

I want to setup my multifunction printer / scanner on my server so that all my machines can access it. I read somewhere about CUPS, but I do not know where to begin. I imagine printing would be easier to setup than scanning, and if scanning doesn't work its not a big loss for me. Could somebody be so kind as to point me in the right location for setup?

Thank you!

Install CA then search for Cups and go from there (support link is shown within CA)

Thanks for the quick response I will try after work!

Are you sure that your all-in-one does already have networking built into it?  I just took a quick glance up on Amazon and it appears that every printer has some type of network connectivity (wired and/or wireless) included as a standard feature.

I have two printers (using wired connections) on my home network and they were every easy to setup.  All I had to do during the software installation was to specify that the printer was networked and the installation program located the printer and setup the driver so that it connected to it when necessary.

100% its pre-EverthingHasWifi but its reliable and I have ink for it that I need to finish using before I get a new one lol! Definitely will get a wireless one in the future but for now I'll give Squid 's method a shot.

Let me make a suggestion.  Make sure it has a wired Ethernet network port as well.  I consider wireless better suited for those devices which are portable.  And you will be saving your wireless bandwidth for those portable devices that really need it.  (There are times at my place when there are close to six-to-ten cellphones connected to the network and I think everyone is streaming music/movies or looking at you tube and facebook!)

I have a much improved wireless situation since I got a Ubiquiti UniFi wireless AP. Not affiliated in any way, just very impressed by the performance improvement over even high end consumer routers.

Isolating wifi from the router and POE with ceiling mount are really helpful.
