add a network driver?

Featured Replies

I'm about to put unraid on a pc running an asrock motherboard that uses the killer e2200 NIC. It's basically a rebranded atheros chip but I know it isn't a standard driver, even with windows I always have to pull the network driver off the mobo cd. I'm assuming unraid won't have native support for it, so what it would take to get the drivers installed for it? I would really prefer to not go buy a new network card if possible.

Thanks for all the help, this community is awesome so far!

I am not a guru in this area but the first place to start would be to see if the manufacturer has provided a Linux 64-bit driver for this chip set.  If that is the case, you have a chance of getting one that might work.  If not...

As Frank said, look for a 64-bit linux driver.

If you find a driver for it, I first would test the network card and if it dosen't work, ask limetech to include the driver for it (they usally include it in the next release).

If you dont find any driver for it, I would still try it before you buy a new NIC.

Ok, how can I test the driver though? That brings me back to my original question of how to install the driver on unraid :D

Have you actually tried to see if the nic works? I remember a killer nic was added recently, don't remember the exact model, if it doesn't work send an email to LT, they usually add requested drivers in the next release.

Ah I see what you meant, sorry. Nah I haven't tried it yet cause I didn't want to start the under taking of moving my entire server setup over to unraid just to have an unusable network, so figured it could be smart to come ask about it first. I know there's some guides a bit back on the ubuntu forums to get the nic going with a generic atheros driver, so perhaps indeed it is included at this point in more distros. I'll get everything backed up and attempt the transition in the next couple days and report back. Thanks for all the help again! Great community

Download the version you want to use.  Follow the instructions to install it on a flash drive.  Insert the drive into the computer in question and boot it.  It will do absolutely NOTHING (Accept a quick read) to any of the connected drives UNLESS you initiate the action.  If you can connect to the GUI, the NIC works!

It worked, awesome :)

I'm thoroughly impressed that it has native support
