August 19, 20169 yr Just curious if anyone has decided that in the end, they no longer want to a media server because they don't really use it all that much. I've got a server with 10x2TB drives plus a cache drive. I've probably got about 500 hundred movies on it, 95% full blu ray rips with HD Audio. The rest just standard DVD. I have an HTPC with JRiver setup for the front end. Funny thing is I don't think I've used it for close to a year after upgrading the whole system about a year and a half ago. Even though I have a pretty good audio system with duel subs, I just tend to watch Netflix these days. Maybe I'm just getting old, hitting the big 50 next year... Would it even be legal to sell it with all my blu ray rips? I certainly don't want to start wiping it all. Should I just hold on to it just in case? How do I even put a price on it if I want to sell? I'm just a little conflicted and wondering if anyone else has run into a similar situation. Maybe did so and then regretted the decision?
August 19, 20169 yr Don't mention it has ripped BluRays just say you haven't used it in a year so you don't know what's on it. Your selling it "as is" - if your really worried about it. But: It is not legal to rip them or at least to sell software to rip them anyway - in the US - will differ elsewhere. But you can legally have backups they just don't specify how you can create the backups. Plus you still would have to have the BluRay disks that were legally purchased to be allowed to make the backups. You can't rent the BluRays and copy them and return the disks to the rental/retail store. That is specifically what they are trying to prevent.
August 19, 20169 yr The content in my opinion is worthless, price up the hardware. If I was to purchase it from you I would more than likely format whole lot but thats just me. I still got my old collection of MP3 from the 90s but never use it as the same audio files are now available in much higher quality on amazon, spotify etc. Even though I dont use them I cant bring myself to delete them.
