September 24, 20169 yr Hey all, So I have been trying to get unRaid working on my machine for almost a year now. Its not as much unRaid as it is the machine will not POST with two GPUs. I cant lie I found unRaid from Linus Tech Tips and ever since then i have been amazed at its power and versatility. For some reason no matter what my configuration of the computer i just cannot get the machine to boot with two video cards in it. I just figured that I would see if anyone else here is able to run unRaid successfully on their machine with similar hardware. Below is my hardware please feel free to let me know what i am doing wrong! Really would love to purchase this software! For some reason when the both cards are in the machine will not turn on at all. Intel i7 6950X 32 GB DDR4 RAM GTX 8500 GS (1st Slot?) nVidia GTX 1080 Founders Ed. (3rd slot?) asus rog x99 rampage v edition 10 512 GB Samsung Evo Pro 850 M.2 NVMe If you want more detailed report let me know I can put up my CPUZ up, my machine currently is running with the 1080 in the first slot. Thank You in advance. Kevin
September 24, 20169 yr Author There is no setting (at least what i can find) in my bios for SLI. No matter what config i put the cards in the machine will not boot with two cards.
September 24, 20169 yr Just covering the basics - have you made sure both GPU's work (can boot and run with either by itself), and can you try a third inexpensive card, just to make sure that that motherboard can handle 2 at a time (to confirm the claim on that board)? And have you checked for a motherboard BIOS update?
September 24, 20169 yr Author Hey Rob, The machine will boot if I place just one card in there (weather it be the 1080 or the GS ) it will boot just fine. I have also tried an old ATI card from one of my machines. Not sure of the exact model number. All i know is that when two cards are in the machine it refuses to boot. I would be willing to purchase a new card if that is the issue. Just an FYI i tried this also with my old board/chip which was exactly what was in the 2 gamers one CPU and i still was not able to boot except i only used 2 video cards not 3. There has to be someone using this hardware. I know the x99 chipset is not exactly forgiving but there has to be a way to get this running! I just did a BIOS update today. There was one but that seemed to have no effect. Should I try 3 cards? 1 1080 and 2 inexpensive ones?
September 24, 20169 yr Have you tried to test whether the second slot works at all, try any working card in it with nothing in the first slot? You may have a lemon of a motherboard.
September 24, 20169 yr Author The slot works I have booted with just the 1080 in that slot. This is a brand new board just got about a month ago, my previous board had same issue I had the x99 deluxe. Same issue was with that board which i find strange is there any BIOS settings that i am missing?

September 25, 20169 yr While I'd think an 850w Corsair would be plenty for two video cards, you DO have a very high-end motherboard and a 140w CPU, in addition to one video card that recommends a 500w PSU (although the card itself doesn't use nearly that much). Nevertheless, I'd be inclined to try a different power supply, just to confirm whether your issue might be power-related. Another 850w unit should be fine .. although if you have access to a kw unit I'd try it. Another alternative would be to try the GTX 8500 GS along with another card that's not as high-end (and power-hungry) as the GTX 1080.
September 26, 20169 yr Author Well you sir are my Hero. Thank you. I was able to resolve the issue by booting one time with the old card in my first slot alone, then I was able to boot with both cards. I am now unRaiding! THANK YOU. Cant wait to get started!
