October 1, 20169 yr Hey all, Sorry if this is the wrong subforum for this. Please move if that is the case. So, im sure a decent percentage of you use unraid as a media server and likely media automation (download, sort, serve). I have been trying to setup Sonarr for a while now on unraid, and been having a lot of issues. Do any of you use Sonarr with unraid to automate torrents? If so, can you please explain your setup? Im mainly looking for things like: - are you using docker apps (if so, which), or VM? - are you using torrents or ... Which clients? - how do you have download directories setup so sonarr can pick up the downloads? - what about plex (or alternative), do you use docker or VM? In my case, i have been using a Windows VM to run all the apps like sonarr, torrent clients, plex etc. It has been running ok, but windows doesnt seem all that stable for this (as it crashes time to time). That being said, all the torrent clients in windows have various issues in regards to connections to Sonarr. I have tried rTorrent as a docker, but then sonarr cannot seem to find the files correctly (first world problems). Any advice appreciated. Im just looking for some advice and someone who has a working setup that i can try to copy.
October 1, 20169 yr I'm sure there are plenty of variations of how things are done, but here is my setup (and any tips to optimize things is more than appreciated as well): unRAID 6.2 Hardware: Cache - 1x 120GB SSD Array - 4x 2TB HDD No parity as of yet, because I need to buy some hardware (5.25 bay adapters) then I'll add a 4TB Parity disk , and an additional 3TB to the array. Docker: Plex Server - Lime-Tree Container - Bridge CouchPotato - Linuxserver IO Container - Host Sonarr - Linuxserver IO Container - Host Deluge Torrent - Linuxserver IO Container - Bridge HTPC Manager - Linuxserver IO Container - Host PlexPy - Linuxserver IO Container - Host (Haven't really used it yet) Jackett - Linuxserver IO Container - Host (Needs to be configured) File Tree: Torrents - Cache Only - Download folder for Deluge Seeds - Array no Cache (Auto-Split) - Downloaded files (moved from Torrents) are seeded from this folder Movies - Array no Cache (Split Level 2) - CouchPotato copies files from Seeds to here Television - Array no Cache (Split Level 3 - Keeps seasons together) - Sonarr copies from Seeds to here PC 1 Backup - Array no Cache (Auto-Split) PC 2 Backup - Array no Cache (Auto-Split) -I don't use any VMs at the moment since I don't have a use for them. -I plan on setting up either NGINX or Apache as a reverse proxy -I'm not happy with this setup since I have movie and television files duplicated and taking up space (I seed for 6 months), but I don't know the correct configuration to use for Sonarr and CouchPotato to avoid this issue. -It took me a minute to configure everything correctly and get the different components to talk to one another.

October 1, 20169 yr Author @deuxcolors thanks for posting your setup. I really wish rTorrent would work. Due to some network restrictions, i cannot seed torrents until it meets some seed ratio, but i can easily seed for a set period of time (24 hours, which will seed a huge % given my connection speed). rTorrent has a neat feature where it can do exactly this, and at the end of the set time period, it sill remove the seeding and entirely delete the data (which, hopefully sonarr has copied to its library already). But sadly it seems to be failing to intergrate with sonarr due to a magnet link bug they seem to be having. and Deluge only has the option to remove the item from download list but not actually delete the files. Wouldnt this completely clog up your downloads folder, since nothing is getting removed? Also, does deluge have any setting to stop seeding after a time period (as opposed to a seed ratio)? Im sort of stuck right now, trying to figure out a download client that works perfectly. Also, is there a docker for jackett public? (the normal jeckett now only supports private providers). Besides those, i will be trying to match your setup, unless anyone advises against it.
October 1, 20169 yr I'll post a more thorough reply when I get home, but look into "add-ons" or "eggs" for Deluge. I think there is one there that will do what you want. @CHBMB Because I wasn't fully awake when I wrote that post and I might have used the wrong word. That being said I was thinking of using bridge for any container that I can modify the port from within. Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk

Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk Any bridged container you can modify the host port, never change the container port. (There are some rare exceptions to this rule, but in general this advice sticks, never change container side port unless you know what you're doing)
October 1, 20169 yr I've done it before when the apps were running on OS X and Windows before that. I just like having things lined up. My OCD makes me want to swap out Lime's Plex container for LinuxServer's, but I haven't figured out how to do it easily. Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk

My OCD makes me want to swap out Lime's Plex container for LinuxServer's, but I haven't figured out how to do it easily. Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk It MAY be a drop in replacement, I'm not sure, (you can probably guess which version I run) Best thing to do is stop LT version, create ls.io container but use a different appdata folder (/mnt/cache/appdata/plex-lsio) and then compare the two folder structures. If the folder structures are the same then should be a straight replacement. I don't understand by what you mean by having things lined up? Nor how running stuff as host helps with that....
October 1, 20169 yr I probably don't know enough for this convo LOL. And I don't always understand the purpose of having a port redirect for each container unless you can't modify the port from within the app itself. As far as lining things up that is easy; I like having apps with port numbers that follow one another. Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk

As far as lining things up that is easy; I like having apps with port numbers that follow one another. Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk OK, yeah I get that, I used to do that so I get where you're coming from. Basically, the docker port is the port the container communicates outwards to host on. The host port is where this comes out on the host (and goes back in) So say you had four apps with random docker container ports, just edit like this... You're overcomplicating things by changing the docker port and as you've noticed not all apps support that anyway. Even if the app does support changing the port, the code within the dockerfile doesn't allow to change the container port because anything you change it to, won't be exposed. The reason you're using host is it fundamentally changes the networking setup of docker, and without going into details, it's far preferable to use bridge networking wherever possible for security reasons, jonp does a good analogy here. Think of host mode like setting DMZ on your firewall to one of your computers. Basically you are allowing all the container to do whatever it wants using the hosts IP / ports. Here's the relevant bit of a dockerfile. As you can see, with nzbget, only 6789 is actually "exposed" so even if you change it in the app to 6788, it won't be able to communicate as only 6789 is exposed to the host at the container/host interface. # ports and volumes VOLUME /config /downloads EXPOSE 6789
October 1, 20169 yr First, I want to apologize to @syrys for hijacking his thread. I do believe this is pertinent to the original question, but if you want me to move to a new thread please let me know. To get back to your questions. There is a plug-in (egg) called AutoRemovePlus for deluge that might help. In deluge, when you click "Remove Torrent" you get the option to remove the the data as well. What is the option you are talking about as far as seed times? And who blocks seeding before a certain parameter is set??? (I want to know so that I can avoid them). Continuing with @CHBMB. I got to check my setup. The only "host" containers I have is PlexMediaServer, and Deluge. The rest are in "Bridge" mode. I mistyped the info earlier. I have a side question. Why use bridge or host IF you can modify the default port within the app itself? After typing that, I reread your last post. I understand the DMZ analogy, and I was talking about setting the containers in bridge mode then modifying the ports. If they are hosted I don't touch the apps port and only modify the container's "outside" port. Adding to the question, why does Plex and Deluge need to run as hosts?
October 1, 20169 yr Deluge I'm not sure about, but Plex is because if you run it as bridge it lists your local ip as one on the docker internal ip address subnet.. ie 172.16.1.0/2
October 1, 20169 yr Good to know. So if I want to swap the Lime container for the LSIO one and run some tests I should stop the first before running the second?
October 1, 20169 yr Good to know. So if I want to swap the Lime container for the LSIO one and run some tests I should stop the first before running the second? Yep, don't want two apps competing for the same ports..

Im just looking for some advice and someone who has a working setup that i can try to copy. A lot of what you're asking iss probably not suitable for discussion here. But I'll answer what I think is reasonable. Basically docker is the way forward for apps unless you can find a good reason not to use them. Setting up docker takes a bit of time and some understanding of port and folder mapping if you've never used them before. The Docker FAQ is a good place to start. Exact setup is dependent on YOUR shares and therefore I wouldn't advise you blindly copy someone else's config as if/when something goes wrong, they ain't going to be around to fix it for you. Spend some time, learn how to do it, and it'll be time well spent. Oh and sorry for my part in taking your thread a little off topic..
October 1, 20169 yr Author @deuxcolors and @CHBMB, no need to appologise for the slightly off topic discussion. In my case, its actually relavent and gave me some good info. Though after CHBMBs first question about host/bridge, i figured out the difference by trial and error (it was pretty intuartive if you mess around it a bit). That being said, deluge can be run in bridge, i have it running like that now. You simply need to edit the docker, put it to bridge mode, then at the bottom click "add another path, port", then use that popup to add a port 8112 on the container to map to 8112 on host (or different port if you have changed or if you require differently), then save and try access the webUI (if fails, you can anways switch it back to host mode and you will be back to how it was before). @deuxcolors: i actually figured out the AutoRemovePlus plugin soon after i made my last post haha. Thanks. It does what i want it to do, though the documentation was a bit hard to come by. I do however have another problem with deluge though. I have my deluge download folder in a shared drive (unassigned devices plugin, drive is mounted and shared on the network) on unraid. When i access this shared drive on my windows pc (through the network), i cannot edit/delete any files on the deluge download directory (not enough permission). If i however use an ftp client (filezilla) and sftp into unraid as root, then i can delete any files through the ftp client. Have you come accross this problem before? I havent tried this yet, but if i install/connect sonarr upto this, i believe it might also have file permission issues. @CHBMB, thanks for the advice/warning. Dont worry, my intention was never to follow anyone blindly or copy their setup entirely. I mainly want to know what software correctly talks to which, sadly this is such a rare combination with torrent clients and sonarr/couchpotato (i did a review of all supported torrent clients on windows with sonarr in the sonarr forums, tl;dr: only 1 was usable and that even had issues). So mainly after which torrent client to use (and roughly how it was setup) to work correctly with sonarr + couchpotato + plex.
October 1, 20169 yr Author @deuxcolors: i tried installing couchpotato as a docker and tried connecting to deluge that was also setup as a docker. But it seems to fail connecting every time. Can you tell me what sort of settings you used to get them connected. I tried the 2 different ports, ip/localhost and all that with deluge as a host and as bridge. couchpotato doesnt even have any logs for me to follow through either =/
October 1, 20169 yr @deuxcolors thanks for posting your setup. Deluge only has the option to remove the item from download list but not actually delete the files. Wouldnt this completely clog up your downloads folder, since nothing is getting removed? If you don't need to meet a specific seed ratio then Sonarr and Couch Potato will delete them for you after they copy them. That is how I have my setup currently. I plan to test to see if setting a seed ratio keeps Sonarr and Couch Potato from moving the files until the ratio is met and Deluge releases them but I haven't had time to test that yet.

I cant seem to get them to talk to each other
October 2, 20169 yr I'm not at home right now but it was fairly simply from what I remember. In Sonarr do to Downloaders and add one. Call it Deluge for simplicity sakes Host is the ip of your unRaid machine Port is 8112-- assuming you didn't change it in the Deluge docket setup Password -- Deluge -- unless you changed it Category is just a way to add a label in Deluge -- I used tv-sonarr Couch Potato is pretty much the same

October 2, 20169 yr Author CP requires a bit more than this Thanks so much. This should really be added to the docker or somewhere much more obvious. If it wasent for you, i would be spending days on this. On a slightly other note, how would one add/replace/edit docker config files? Rather, what is the right way to do it? For example, my docker App data (configs) are all in a user share i created called "DockerAppData". But if i browse to this share using my other windows machine, i cannot edit any files (permissions). However, if i use filezilla to login as root and connect to unraid through sftp, i can browse and edit the said files (obviously, im root). But, i can see all existing file permisisons are set to "nobody users". So, if i add/edit files, it might set the permissions incorrectly. Any suggestions as to what the correct way to copy files there? One of the reasons i want to do this is, i want to import some old setting/database files from my old couchpotato/sonarr setup, which requires overwriting the database file with the old one. TY in advance
October 2, 20169 yr CP + Deluge is a minor PITA at first. Once you know why it works, it works fine. I'll try setting Deluge into host mode today.
