October 20, 20169 yr I just upgraded to Unraid 6.2. Now I have the option of Docker. I wonder, which is more CPU efficient and RAM efficient, Docker or plugins? Doesnt Docker requires some resource to run its os? Never use Docker before.
October 20, 20169 yr Technically in terms of memory / cpu usage plugins have a very slight advantage (emphasis on very) But docker has definite advantages over plugins and are the way to go Sent from my LG-D852 using Tapatalk
October 20, 20169 yr Most applications are better suited to docker. Some need direct access to host resources, and are better as plugins. The efficiency numbers are very similar, that's not really the reason to switch. The ability to isolate the docker to only what is needed vs. allowing it free reign of all resources is what makes docker a much better choice for most apps. In the context of unraid, dockers are much superior, as each environment can be custom fit to match the app, and changes to the host OS don't effect it nearly as much. A plugin is likely to break when you update unraid unless the plugin has already been updated to match the new setup, where a docker is very unlikely to break when you upgrade the host OS. Lastly, if you do need to limit the amount of resources that a docker uses, it's relatively easy to do. Limiting a plugin, not nearly as easy.
