Drive Failed after I thought I removed a drive from my Array.

Featured Replies

Stopping here before I do anything to ensure I don't screw this up worse than it is.

Just upgraded my Array with a bunch of 2TB drives. So I had a 3TB Parity, 3TB Data and 5x2TB data for a 13TB array. Upgraded to 6.2 and decided I wanted to run Dual Parity for additional protection as I don't use any other form of backup (yes, I know). So I pulled all content off the 3TB Data drive and moved it to be an additional cache drive. I didn't realize that Unraid didn't consider this a formal downsize so it currently considers this disk missing. Then to compound matters one of the 2TB drives has failed. I'll attach the picture here for help explaining.

So I need to do 2 things. I don't have another 2TB drive I can use to replace the failed one. What can I do to move all the content off the failed drive? Can I just putty into Unraid, browse over to it and move content to other drives, then when everything is off of it somehow reset the Unraid configuration so it's not looking for the missing Disk1 (3TB) and Disk 6 (2TB)?

I'll be waiting here for guidance so I don't screw anything more up.

Attach diagnostic report.  'Tools'  >>>  'Diagnostics'

Second thing,  I was looking at your description and I suspect that you reassigned disk 1 as PArity 2  as your cache drive is a 1TB.  Is this correct?

Third item, did you open up the case and mess around inside of it while you were doing this rearrangement?  You might have just loosen either the SATA or power connection from disk 6.

You can copy all data from the emulated disk6 to the other disks, don't copy to disk1 obviously, then do a new config and rebuilt parity.

Correct on both assumptions on Disk1 and Parity2.

Diagnostics added.

I've checked all connections, they are all secure. I'm pretty sure the drive has just flaked out.

Thanks for the assistance.

Johnnie, Thanks for the info. I'll hold off a moment more just to see what Frank throws out, but hopefully it's the same.

I think Johnnie is proposing the best plan of action.  (I thought at first that parity might not have been built on Parity 2 but, (on further reflection) since it has a green dot for status, Parity 2 should be good!)

Just don't do anything to disk 6 ( like formatting or trying to write to it) until you are sure you have all of the data recovered from the emulated drive.  (There may be some chance that the data might be salvageable...)

Thank you to both of you. I'll let you know how it works out.

Copy or move only from disk to disk, never from disk do share.

All,

I think I'm back up and running good here. Thank you for the assistance.
