What do you all use to backup sensitive, such as photos and documents? I thought attaching a USB drive directly to the server and simply copying the necessary files using Unassigned Devices Plugin. https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=45807.0. From what I understand it be a manual process of selecting and copying the files using Midnight Commander. But is there a backup tool in unraid which will keep track of my selected files and make a backup copy when scheduled or instructed?

There are a bunch of sync programs and there is CrashPlan.

 

I use both to backup essential files to another unRaid machine and to a backup drive attached to a separate PC.

 

 

If you study that first post in the Unassigned Devices thread you linked you will see that it includes sample scripts that you can use or adapt, and you can have them automatically run when you plug in your external drive.
