March 2, 201016 yr My current unRAID build is using the 6 on board SATA connections. I'm currently at about 70% capacity and would like to expand the number of usable drives i have. After some research, i've ordered the Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8. I have two open PCI-e x4 ports on my motherboard, so adding the card is not an issue, and i have several 9 available drive trays. But i do have a question. Will this card be "plug n play"? If I power down the system, add the card, add a few drives power up the system will it find the card, and drives and allow me to add them to the array? If not, what needs to be done?

The card you bought DOES NOT work in unRAID as of yet. Unless you are going to compile your own kernel and mess around with it to get it working, you are out of luck. There is a thread about two spots below this one that talks about it. Limetech says the card will be supported, but it is as of now NOT working.
March 2, 201016 yr The Hardware Compatibility List Wiki site is a must to read before buying hardware. I read it twice before I went out and bought any hardware for my unRAID server. Some parts listing might not be as up-to-date as we'd like, but a simple rule of thumb is, if current chipsets are listed in the HCL for your mobo's, NIC's, etc.., it is most likely any future hardware with those listed chipsets should work fine. If it isn't unlisted or devices which your planning to purchase uses a completely different chipset that are not listed anywhere in the HCL, you might run into problems. Compiling the drivers for the unRAID Kernel for a unsupported device might get sticky and could cause more harm then good. If this is your only option, make a full backup of your USB drive and try your luck. Thankfully I've never had to do this for unRAID, but have done this for other Linus Distro's. It works, but it just gets very fiddly and is time consuming when it doesn't work, especially when it brings your system to a grinding halt.

March 3, 201016 yr Author three.. Upgrade to larger drives. True, but as it sits now i'm running 4 x 2TB drives, and 1x1.5TB I have 6 x 1TB drives waiting to go into the system
