March 22, 201016 yr DVDShrink is good, but it can't deal with the latest protection schemes all by itself. DVDShrink works great when you have AnyDVD running in the background. That's all you'll ever need for DVD ripping. Agreed, on windows AnyDVD and DVDShrink is the best combo from DVD ripping, that's what I use.
March 22, 201016 yr Author Ahhh...I have heard of AnyDVD - it looks very interesting. I will definitely take a closer look. I see what you mean Purko (TY) - I just ripped a DVD into 1GB VOBS (as you suggested) and tested with Media Player Classic. I had to "feed" the folder - worked great. I am somewhat behind the times - XBMC sounds like an awesome frontend. I feel like a kid in a candy store. One of these days I may have to upgrade my TV as well .
March 22, 201016 yr I was thinking of starting with something basic - like the following:... That is close to how I do it video/genre/title video/TV/title music/genre/artist/album I use anydvd and dvdshrink on a vmware environment running on an old linux 2.4 system. One of these days I'll get vmware up and running on my video unraid server and rip on that machine.
March 23, 201016 yr Author That's what I would like to do - Rip on the unRAID server - that would be great as the machine will have a lot of free time during the day. However, first I need to learn the in's and out's of adding packages. Thanks for the suggestions WeeboTech. In my quest for organization I can see myself becoming somewhat compulsive with so much space to maintain .
