March 23, 20179 yr Hello. I have an old unraid system but it seems the MB has died. Can I copy the data from those disks directly to my destop, without the unraid server? Thanks.
March 23, 20179 yr If you are running a linux based desktop, it's easy, just connect the disks and use them as normal. If you are a windows or OSX user, things get a little more complicated, it would probably be easier to temporarily boot your desktop with the unraid USB stick and all the drives connected. You haven't given me enough details about your setup to give you a definitive answer, so the answer is, maybe, depends, probably, yes, no.
March 23, 20179 yr Author Ok actually changed strategy. I put all HHD of old Unraid into the box of my new Unraid, inserted the corresponding USB and boot. Problem is its stack at string: ACPI: SSDT 7e666398 0017 (v02 PmRef Cpu0Ist 00003000 INTL 20160422) Is that a dead end?
March 23, 20179 yr Wait, so you have a new unraid server as well? That makes it much easier, just put the data drives in to the new unraid one at a time, don't assign them to an array slot, mount them with the unassigned devices plugin and copy the data using mc at the console or use one of the file manager dockers (krusader or dolphin) to copy the files.
March 23, 20179 yr Author You mean put the drives into the new box, with the new usb stick or the old usb stick? If I use the new usb isnt it going to mess my current new untaid? Thanks
March 23, 20179 yr Use your new USB and all the hard drives. The new USB stick will use all your new drives for its array, the old server drives will show up in unassigned devices. Mount and work with them from there. As long as you don't assign any of the old drives to the array or set a new config, your new array will continue exactly as is.
March 23, 20179 yr Author Thank you so much for your support! I am trying what you said. The only thing that troubles me is that I have only 6 ports and the drives of the old server are 6 and the new 3. So I will do it in parts. First 3 disks and then 3 more.
March 23, 20179 yr Author Ok I mounted the first 3 disks. Tried to access one disk from the explorer of my desktop returned "You do not have permission to acces \\bla bla bla disk Contact you network admin bla bla bla.... So what do I do now? Thanks

March 23, 20179 yr Author Thanks again. Ok, I have never used console, have no clue about it, but I guess I can try to learn... With dolphin I had some luck but when I managed to mount my drives and tried to access the contents from the web ui it again asked for user and pass but I have no clue about it. Thanks for your patience....
March 24, 20179 yr Author Do the HDDs need authentication because of the unraid system they were before? I dont remember specifically creating any kind sequrity. Any help?
March 24, 20179 yr Use the /mnt/disks/whatever path listed for the disks in unassigned devices, not the smb share. You are using the dolphin docker in your new unraid, right?
March 24, 20179 yr Author Yes I use dolphin in the new unraid. When you say "use the /mnt/disks/whatever path you mean in the dolphin settings? Or in the Unraid main page? Look at the pics Thanks
March 24, 20179 yr Change host path from /mnt/user/HDDs SAVE/ to /mnt Then in the dolphin window your unassigned devices disk will show up if you click on the red Root folder and navigate to the /mnt/disks and you can copy the data to your user shares in /mnt/user Don't use the network location in dolphin for this, you are local on the server.
March 24, 20179 yr Also, if you haven't used dolphin before, it will make it easier to copy folders if you click the split button on the top row to give you two windows, that way you can open the /mnt/disks location on one side and the /mnt/user location on the other.
March 24, 20179 yr Author Still I cannot get inside the disk to see folders and files. Thank you very much for your support, I hope it will be solved...
March 24, 20179 yr Community Expert Try cycling the UD security setting: Settings -> Unassigned Devices -> Enable SMB Security Change to Yes, apply, back to No and apply again.
March 24, 20179 yr Author Just to let you know that I red about WinSCP and I can now copy the data through that. Thanks again.
