April 23, 201016 yr Anyone running iSCSI on unRAID? I am thinking about replacing a Qnap TS-509 with a little unRAID box but so far I am missing iSCSI which I would need to replace the Qnap. Any hints?
April 23, 201016 yr Though unraid does not support iSCSI out of the box (I stand to be corrected) I would imagine if Slackware has some support like a package for it as a service, you would be able to run it as an additional stortage service. I know for certain FreeNAS and OpenFiler have it native 'out of the box' as a service to enable and configure. Would unraid be fast enough to be usable for iSCSI use if unraid supported it, due to it's limited write speeds? Anyone running iSCSI on unRAID? April 23, 201016 yr I haven't delved into iSCSI yet, but I'd start out with a Google search. Off the get-go I found a couple promising search results immediately. It does look like you will need to do a custom kernel compilation. http://open-iscsi.org/ http://www.howtoforge.com/iscsi_on_linux http://iscsitarget.sourceforge.net/
April 23, 201016 yr Author BRiT, thanks! Anyone knows if there are plans to include it in v5 by default? I am not primarily into speed that much here but more into functionality. Aperture for instance can't write to network shares, but when presented via iSCSI will be happy to use that disk.
April 23, 201016 yr I thought unRAID 5 was more about expansion and functionality support. Too much at one time will surely delay it.
April 23, 201016 yr Yeah, surely will. Any dates out yet? At the current time, Limetech does not publish dates, roadmaps, timelines. There is usually a major release once a year and a couple udpdates throughout the year.
