Windows 10 v1709 (Fall Creator's Update), 2 unRAID servers, one SMB works, one doesn't

Recommended Posts

Yes Microsoft is deprecating SMBv1 which is used in workgroups to exchange the "browse lists" (the list of computers that show up in Explorer).

Instead they are using a protocol called WS-Discovery which is very similar to mDNS used by Apple's bonjour service.  Of course M$ can't use mDNS because, well, because they're Mircosoft!

Unfortunately, WS-Discovery has not been integrated into Samba, but eventually I think it probably will be.  In meantime, we are looking at various open source WS-Discovery packages to integrate into Unraid.

Note: this issue only has to do with discovery, as in displaying network computers in Explorer.  You can always get at your server by opening an Explorer window and typing the name of the server as in:

\\Tower
