Mount a previously used disk?

Featured Replies

So I rebuild my array from 4x 1TB disks to 2x 8TB, and restored all the files from backup, however a few files for whatever reason cannot be read from the backup source so I would like to retreive them.  I still have the disks that contained the data untouched just removed from the array.  Prior to removing the old disks I did run through the new config option.  Since I did this am I unable to access the data? or can i mount it in an unprotected way?

Mount it with the Unassigned Disks plugin

The unassigned devices in the community Applications?

Edit so with that I see all 4 drives in unassigned however I am unable to mount more than 1?  Does it matter since the array isnt started?

Tried starting it no change, I will copy what I need off the disk currently functioning and then try the others one by one.

Thanks for your help in pointing out this tool

You definitely won't be able to mount the ZFS drives (which implies that they were NOT originally part of the unRaid array) without also installing the ZFS plugin, and there you'll be on your own as you'll have to hit the command line to do it.

I don't use the Preclear plugin, but the icon there on the 3 drives implies to me that the drives are either in the process of being precleared or are already precleared and in order to mount them you'll have to go to Settings - Unassigned Devices and then enable destructive mode so that you can format the drives.  But, hit "help" first as there is a caveat with formatting a drive via Unassigned Devices

To be honest not where why they say ZFS, they were possibly originally in a ZFS array but since then had been moved to unRAID and been working fine, but these are the same 4 drive's, they were never fully removed from the chassis just unplugged.

Best to post that question in the UD thread so that @dlandon can answer it

So i found a tool (UFS Explorer) which can mount and read the data off the disks that say "ZFS member" in Windows, the tool recognizes it as XFS formatting.

I am thinking the other XFS disk is unmountable because it was the parity drive.

They should also mount in the array or cache slot.
