November 2, 20178 yr Hey Guys, Sorry if I'm putting this in the wrong spot, but I just didn't want to hijack some other threads. I'm fairly new so I apologize if this is a dumb question, but I'm sure its a simple one. I just installed the unassigned devices plugin with the intention of using a large media drive outside of the parity array. Basically, media is not important so I don't really care if the drive dies. That said, I was just wondering if a caching SSD can be used with drives outside of the array. I'd like to use an SSD caching drive for extracting files and stuff from other dockers like sonarr and couchpotato, and then finally have the files end up on the non-array mechanical hard drive. Do unassigned devices work the same way as array drives? Thanks!
November 2, 20178 yr unRAID doesn't manage unassigned devices, and the plugin doesn't provide anything like unRAID's mover to automatically move files between unassigned devices. You could certainly write your own rsync script to handle this and schedule it with the user scripts plugin.

Still couldn't get unRAID mover to move files from there to an unassigned device though. I think I remember some post by limetech saying mover would be made more flexible and configurable. Don't know where that effort stands or whether it would include unassigned devices though.

Thank you.I'll just stick the drive in the array then.Im glad I checked here first before spending time messing with it. I just didn't 'need' it in the array, and the fact that the media hdd is larger than the parity drive. All good though, I'll move drives around.Thank you for the info! November 2, 20178 yr Author I assume you know parity must be at least as large as the largest data drive.I do know this, that is why I thought I'd leave the large media drive out of the parity. But it's ok I'll make some changes to my drive setup to get it set up right. Thanks! Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk
