MyMovies database and flash drive

Featured Replies

I use MCE 2005 on 2 computers and they share a database by mymovies.  Right now that database lives on the array and when it's accessed the drive its on spins up.  If I put the database on the flash drive would that cause any problems?  I relize it wouldn't be protected but it would be accessed faster right?

Sure you could try that.  It would be interesting to see how much of a performance difference you see.

has anything been done in this reguard? I'd like to know results....I'll probably be implamenting a mce 2k5 HD HTPC, and I'm sure MyMovies is something I'll use. My flash is 512mb, is it too small to do this with?

A flash drive has a limited write cycles before it dies. Writing constantly to the flash with the license attach, could cause it to fail earlier. Is that a factor to consider ?

I dropped my installation of Twonky mediaserver, as it would place a cachefile on the flash.

Maybe it would be possible to use a secondary flash for the cache ?

I tried to use the flash for the database but it didn't seem to speed mymovies up.  I think mymovies in general is a great program it just isn't very fast with respect to the database.  For comparison I tried Mymovies on a standalone machine and it was about the same speed as if the database was on one of the unraid disks.
