December 13, 20178 yr I've been looking at unRaid for a while now but can't decide if it would work for my server. I'm using my server for Plex and file storage. I use uTorrent and AirDC++ for downloading. Will I still be able to use them after I install unRaid? Or do I have to use them thru a VM? And what about the raid? At this moment I got 6 storage drives but going to have about 40 at the end. When I buy a new hard drive and plug in, how much work will it be for it to work with the other drives? Do I have to format my current drives before unRaid will work?

This you'd have to use a VM for as AFAIK no apps available for that protocol 21 minutes ago, Humi said: When I buy a new hard drive and plug in, how much work will it be for it to work with the other drives? Basically nothing. Adding a new drive to an existing array will mean that you either preclear it in advance and then add it, or simply add it and then unRaid clears it. Either process takes hours and the drive will be unavailable for storage during the process 23 minutes ago, Humi said: Do I have to format my current drives before unRaid will work? Short answer is yes. unRaid has specific partitioning requirements. You'd start unRaid with a blank data drive (with either a parity drive installed or not) and then copy the files from your filled drive to it, either over the network, or locally with the drive mounted via the Unassigned Devices plugin. 25 minutes ago, Humi said: but going to have about 40 at the end unRaid supports up to 30 drives in the array (up to 2 parity drives and up to 28 data drives)

Can I attach a DAS or SAN + 30 drives, or is it a total of 30?
December 14, 20178 yr 30 Drives total however they are connected. Plus IIRC another 36 drives in a cache pool

December 14, 20178 yr Community Expert You can have up to 24 drives in the cache pool, plex can also use them.
December 14, 20178 yr Yes yes yes, Unraid. I hope Unraid can support what you need, however the entire Unraid experience has reborn my fun with computers. You won't regret it, I haven't
