New unRAID server can't find network adapter

Featured Replies

I am trying to get unRAID going on an older socket AM3 motherboard. I have the BIOS set to legacy, I did not choose UEFI when creating the flash drive. So unRAID boots, but never finds either the integrated network card or an Intel Pro 1000 PCiE 1x card I have which I know works un unRAID as I had it in another unRAID server in the past. I have attached a couple of pics taken with my phone of messages during boot. I have a sneaky suspicion something is not quite right with my flash drive, I may try creating it again. The onboard LAN controller is enabled in the BIOS.

Have you checked out the top line on the second picture to see if its true or not?

Yes, I redid the flash drive using the unRAID USB creator app, I am on a Mac. I am going to redo it manually. When I put the flash drive in my Mac the label did show UNRAID.

So this gets even weirder. I tried a second flash drive (also a Kingston data traveler which I have used in the past without issues) and I created the flash drive manually, I get the same messages, it doesn't recognize the name of the flash drive as UNRAID and it can't find the network card. The funny thing is that the lights on the network port are flashing, I know the cable is good, it's so weird. I am booting via UEFI now too. I've also tried a bunch of different USB ports at the back and the front, no difference.

I am going to download 6.35 and try it, see if I fare any better.

You can also try a different USB port. Ideally usb2

Ya, I have tried a bunch of different ports, USB2 and 3, same results.

I just booted with 6.35 and I'm still getting the messages where it doesn't recognize that the flash drive is named UNRAID, even though it is, and it seems to come up with an IP address which I can ping, but I don't get an IP address when I do an ifconfig command. It's so weird.

So it comes up with an IP, I can login to the console, I can ping google DNS servers 8.8.8.8 I can ping google.com by name, so clearly I have an IP, I can't browse to it though, it doesn't load, I tried from three different computers and four different browsers. I typed diagnostics from the console, it said it saved it to the flash drive, it's not there. Not sure what to do next.

Attaching diagnostics. This is under 6.35. Still getting an IP address, I can ping out from the console, cannot connect via web browser.

Some more screen shots. I disabled the onboard LAN and tried my Intel Pro 1000, tried it in two different slots, it does not get an IP, removed it, re enabled the onboard LAN, it gets an IP, but I can't browse to it. The system also still thinks the flash drive is not named UNRAID.

Try this:

delete /boot/config/network.cfg

delete /boot/config/network-rules.cfg (if it exists)

reboot

If I navigate to /boot/config and run the ls command, all I see is ssh/ nothing else. Also it tells me from the command line -bash: delete: command not found.

Then your flash drive is not mounting correctly

Yeah, this is the ongoing problem I've been having. I am on a Mac, I've created two different flash drives, both Kingston DataTraveler's. I've used the Limetech unRAID USB Flash creator app, I've done it manually, I've used 6.4 and 6.35 to no avail. What am I doing wrong? I've done this before, I've got four unRAID servers running. This is not my first rodeo, but I can't figure this out.

Can't help with Macs, only work with Macs when I get paid, maybe try creating the flash drive in a PC if you can get access to a friends or so.

Ok so I used a Windows 10 laptop, downloaded the Limetech USB flash creator app, created a flash drive, used it on my system, I still get the errors about the flash drive not being named UNRAID and it still can't find my network card.

Do I have to double click on the makebootable file after using the unRAID flash drive creator app?

I believe not but I never used the flash drive creator, try this, I had to do it on some servers for the flash drive to work correctly starting with v6.2:

This did not work for me, still getting the same results.

No more ideas, probably something wrong with flash drive or the server.
