Noise and high temps.

Featured Replies

Newb here with a problem though I am not exactly sure what the issue is. Tonight i started playing a media file from my unraid box and i noticed a weird sound coming from array. Please note that is not something like a dell or some other server grade hardware I am running. Its a AMD A series processor, 8 gb of ram and 4 segate 2TB drives. After looking at the system logs and information on the drive that is running a high temp I found the following things. I am hoping that someone can help me decipher what is going on. Cable issues, PSU, failing drive? I am not really sure

Thanks for any assistance.

added diagnostic package

Please go to Tools - Diagnostics and post the complete diagnostics zip. The diagnostics zip contains syslog, SMART for all disks, and many other things to help us make sense of your situation.

We wish everyone would always attach the complete diagnostics zip directly to their post.

While I wait on that, the most obvious thing that comes to mind is a problem with fans. Fans are the most likely cause of noise in a computer, and of course, also a cause of high temperatures.

I have posted the diagnostics. I have also posted an audio file containing the noise I am hearing. It will be just around the 11-13 second mark

Don't know what noise you are hearing, but my frequency range isn't what it used to be. Sounds normal to me.

I also don't see any hot disks in your diagnostics. It looks like you are having connection problems with one or more disks. Check connections and try again. Cables should be loose enough so no strain is put on the connection and the connector can sit squarely on the connection.

Thanks for the help you guys are awesome!! I have a brand new cable that will be going into it. Is it ok to stop a parity check to install the new cable?

Not only is it OK, but I would say there is no point in continuing it like it is.

That sounds to me like a disk restarting, like if it's losing power, check power cable, since the errors are on 2 disks maybe they share the same cable or splitter.
