April 1, 20188 yr I powered down my server via the GUI, but it's hung and not turning off. The last thing displayed on the monitor plugged into the box is "Turning off swap". It's shut down enough that the GUI is no longer available and I cannot ssh into it either. Is it "safe"ish to just power the box off from this point by holding down the power button until it dies? Are there other steps I should take first? Edited April 2, 20188 yr by FreeMan
April 1, 20188 yr Did you stop the array before hitting power down? If not, then who knows where it hung, it's a crapshoot whether or not the array got fully stopped and super.dat updated. If the array was stopped, then you hit power down, then it should be no problem to kill power. Regardless, I can't see any other option, but at least if it was already stopped, you are definitely ok. I know why they changed it, but in my mind it was a mistake to show the power down or reboot button with the array still started. Personally I don't have the array autostart, and I always stop the array before powering down. There is too much going at those times for me to trust that everything is going to "just work". I want to verify conditions at both ends, just for my piece of mind.

This time I didn't because I was in a bit of a hurry. 3 hours ago, Frank1940 said: Did you read this thread? I had a while ago, thanks for the reminder. I don't run any VMs so that part isn't applicable, but like jonathanm said, I usually stop dockers & the array before shutting down. I ended up holding the power button & starting a memcheck (which was the goal).
