[SOLVED] Disk in Error state/disabled

Featured Replies

Just got my first error in unRaid! I was moving some files to the array, and my daily maintenance check/email came in with an alert/warning. It's an exciting day.

Event: unRAID array errors
Subject: Warning [CYBERTRON] - array has errors
Description: Array has 1 disk with read errors
Importance: warning
Disk 12 - WDC_WD40EFRX-68WT0N0_WD-WCC4E4RD9D48 (sdo) (errors 128)

Event: unRAID Disk 12 error
Subject: Alert [CYBERTRON] - Disk 12 in error state (disk dsbl)
Description: WDC_WD40EFRX-68WT0N0_WD-WCC4E4RD9D48 (sdo)
Importance: alert

I ran a SMART test on the disk and it says all is well. Attaching diagnostics. Let me know how to proceed.

Thanks, all!

It did pass the short SMART test, it will likely fail the extended test, but even if it doesn't that disk looks to be in a very bad state and IMO should be replaced ASAP.

Just so you now what to look for, both these attributes should be 0 on healthy WD disks:

ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAGS VALUE WORST THRESH FAIL RAW_VALUE
  1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate POSR-K 200 200 051 - 972
 200 Multi_Zone_Error_Rate ---R-- 200 200 000 - 9

All your other disks look perfect, except disk 10:

ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAGS VALUE WORST THRESH FAIL RAW_VALUE
  1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate POSR-K 200 200 051 - 4
 200 Multi_Zone_Error_Rate ---R-- 200 200 000 - 1

But such low values can be OK and no reason to worry for now, but keep monitoring.

Great, thanks so much!

Just to make sure I understand the procedure, before I start mucking about:

  1. Get new disk (it can be a larger drive, correct?)
  2. Power down server
  3. Install new disk
  4. Reboot server
  5. Stop array
  6. Unassign old drive
  7. Assign new drive to old drive's slot
  8. Restart array/check the Yes I'm sure button to rebuild

That got it?

Also, at what point should I be worried about disk 10? And, final question - there's only about 800gb of files on that drive - is there a way to migrate them off of it to another drive?

Thanks for the help!

That's about it, you can also remove the disabled disk when installing the new one.

As long as those values remain stable no reason to worry, if they keep increasing then yes, start planning to replace it, you cam move files between disks using for example Midnight Commander (mc on the console), always move from disk to disk, not to/from shares.

Rebuilding as we speak. Used the chance to upgrade to an 8TB disk.
