October 26, 20187 yr I am trying to manually update from 6.3.5 if I try for a clean install I get the following error end Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root FS on unknown block(0,0) if I create the usb with the backup files I copied of the usb before I started updating and put it in the machine and start it I get the following Failed to load COM32 file /syslinux/menu.c32 What have I done?
October 26, 20187 yr Community Expert That sounds like a problem reading from the USB flash drive. If you have it in a USB 3 port try moving it to a USB 2 one as they tend to be more reliable. If it is really failing it will need replacing, and if you go down that route it tends to be better to go for a USB2 drive for reliability as you do not get any performance advantage with UnRAID (since it runs from RAM) going with USB 3.
October 27, 20187 yr Author I have tried all the usb ports on the system and all give the same result. I guess I need to see if I have another flash drive that would work.
October 27, 20187 yr Author I have another unraid server that runs unraid 5. I put the usbs in that machine. they boot right into unraid, both of them no issue. So what kind of hardware issue could the main machine have that would prevent it from booting properly? I have tried different ram, unplugging all the drives.

October 28, 20187 yr Author I have tried 3 other usb drives with new and from backup. I was able to boot from the usb drives on two other computers but not this one. I was able to boot from a Ununtu live usb but then all i can see is the pointer. Going to unplug all the drives and go from there. Not really sure where do to go from here.
October 29, 20187 yr Community Expert One more thing worth trying, it worked for me on a computer that wouldn't boot any Unraid releaser newer than 6.2, on the flash drive edit syslinux/syslinux.cfg and add root=sda to the boot option you're using after initrd=/bzroot, e.g. label Unraid OS menu default kernel /bzimage append initrd=/bzroot root=sda
