[Solved] wipefs refused for drive not mounted in Unassigned Devices

Featured Replies

I would like to build a secondary RAID1 pool with drives outside of the array.  When I try to wipe one of the two drives it is refused.  The drive once was part of Unassigned Devices.  I did unmount it so it should be free to be wiped and formatted.  But this does not work.  How can I wipe that disk and reformat it with BTRFS?

Many thanks in advance.

root@Tower2:~# wipefs /dev/sdf
DEVICE OFFSET TYPE UUID LABEL
sdf 0x200 gpt
sdf 0x2baa1475e00 gpt
sdf 0x1fe PMBR
root@Tower2:~# wipefs --all /dev/sdf
wipefs: error: /dev/sdf: probing initialization failed: Device or resource busy

***EDIT***: Found it. Had to delete the partition from within Unassigned Devices plugin first.

I just came across this thread looking for this exact answer. If it helps in the future: here's a video that walks through the process:
