June 29, 200719 yr Just wondering when we can expect the release of unRAID 4.1? I'm really looking forward to the writable user shares. Also, will it be a free upgrade from 4.0 to 4.1?
June 29, 200719 yr bump I believe all upgrades are free. I know that I initially installed 3.x and then upgraded to 4.0 without a problem. Bill

July 22, 200718 yr Same for me, looking forward to 4.1 and any indications of release timelines that could be shared would be great. Mola

July 23, 200718 yr Sleep deprivation from the new baby must be messing with you, Matthew - 4.1 has been out for a week or so. True, but not the 4.1 that we were all expecting. We were looking for writable user shares and security enhancements to be available in 4.1, but they've been pushed to 4.2. Michael
July 28, 200718 yr Hey BillP, Long time no chat bro... Indeed the newborn is an experience. I was aware of the 2 hr feedings during the night but what I wasn't prepared for those feedings taking over an hour including the burp. So it's not a simple get up and feed every 2hrs then crash... It's been 6 weeks and she still require feeding every 2 hrs and produces about 10 diapers a day. Well, I suppose my child is more maintenance than the gold fish... As for 4.1, it's what Michael posted... I think I'd be fine if there's a way to password protect the web mgmt page as a gap measure until the release. I've tried changing the main.htm to something different as a work around but it seems it's embedded in a proprietary webdaemon called emhttp so there's no exposed main.htm file. I still have my other NAS (10/100 fixed box) that's password protected and using that for backups and private docs until the security patch is released for unRaid. The issue I'm having with the exposed folders and why hidden folders doesn't work me is my Xbox. I use the Xbox as my home theater pc and once the folder is hidden after it's mapped, it can't see it anymore so i'm forced to expose my folders. I have disk share hidden and user share read only. I've noticed if i'm using windows, having mapped folders that's hidden works but not for the xbox. Also, the 1U server i've built for the unRaid... I had to mount it in the garage, it was too loud. The fans rotate at a faster rate to move the same volume of air which attributes to the Jet like noise. It's small and out of the way but... 1U's not the right case to use for home servers. Maybe 2U's could work if someone needs to consider space, 2U's use a 80mm fan instead of 40mm so noise would be less. L8r Bill, M
July 29, 200718 yr I'm also very interested in when the security features in 4.2 are going to be released. Not being able to password protect the web interface is an huge security flaw and really needs to be implement asap. Even being able to disable the web interface is preferable to what it is now.
August 8, 200718 yr As a temporary measure for the web interface, is it possible to either not assign a name to the server or assign an obscure random one, and then give it a fixed IP address? That way it takes a bit more work to get to the web interface address, particularly if it's via a PC other than the one you use for the web interface. Of course, you would have to remember the IP address and there are only 256(?) possibilities.
August 8, 200718 yr but if you don't hide ALL the shares, all someone has to do is look under my network places and they'll be able to see the server name (movies on TOWER, etc)
August 8, 200718 yr Doh - didn't think of that. OK, is it possible to name the server something like "google.com" so that if the name is typed into the browser it goes to a different web-site? If you ping it, though, I don't know if it will return the external IP address.
