Tebasaki
If I have 6 drives, four 8tb and two 10tb and want two parity drives, I have to use the two 10tb. Does this mean that the extra 4tb in both those drives aren't being utilized? Should I hold off on getting 10tb until i can buy 3 and start using them in my array? (Two 10tb parity, one 10tb array drive?) Link to comment

Yes, but it also means that you could later add 10TB drives or replace the 8TB drives with 10TB and you wouldn't have to replace parity. Link to comment
