March 4, 20197 yr Let's face it, the whole point of unRAID is to throw as many drives into the array as you can. The developers take pride in the fact we can now mix drives of different sizes, speeds, brands, and protocols. The problem is: Which drive did I put where? I keep a separate excel spreadsheet documenting each drive by serial number, I have a column for "location" which describes where that drive is physically located in the server, and a small notes section for comments like "used drive from Dave's old desktop". Please consider adding a "Description" or "Notes" field for each drive where I could keep that data right in unRAID. Thank you, Brian PS: I LOVE the software. Keep up the great work!
March 5, 20197 yr Just an FYI: The plugin "Server layout" does much of what you want (though I agree, something like this would be great to have natively). You can pick in what orientation your drives show up (columns and rows), then assign a drive to each slot. It will give you all the information on the drive (serial number, letter, firmware version, etc.), and there's also a "Notes" section for anything custom you might want to include. March 6, 20197 yr Halon314, Maybe I am misunderstanding however, there is a comments field that can be used. To gain access to it, click the "Main" tab, then click on one of the drives (blue type), scroll down and you will see the comments field listed in the disk X properties. You can provide a comment for each drive. The cache drive will only accept a label for the first drive in the pool. And you can't provide comments for the Parity drives - no comment field to do so. That being said, I did try the Server Layout plugin. It was pretty slick in that it allowed you to define the layout, orientation, etc. My only complaint was that the webpage didn't seem to match the theming and or size of the unRaid gui. If the comment field is not what you are looking for, please accept my apologies. -MW Edited March 6, 20197 yr by mfwade
