March 30, 20197 yr First of all sorry if this has been asked and answered before as i was not sure what to search for i could not find it with my basic knowledge. I am trying to have all my local traffic stay local so if someone on my home or work network opens a file or plays something on plex it routes it to the lan ip and not out one wan in to the other wasting the limited upload bandwidth. the work network and the server are on the same lan at the moment i bought a 2nd nic and power-line adapters to connect the home network to the server. the home network is 192.168.0.0 and the work network is 192.168.1.0. would i have to install something like pfsense to achieve this or is the a simpler way to do this. any help would be much appreciated.
March 30, 20197 yr Community Expert I am no expert in this field but I would try (1) wiring one of the NIC to the Home network and the other NIC to the Work network. (2) assign IP address of each NIC to the range of the appropriate network. (I seem to recall that someone did some very similar to grant access (to a tenant) to his server and not access to his personal network.) Obviously, you would have to assign static IP addresses on each of the two Modems involved.
