April 1, 20197 yr I've tried about 5 different VMs and they all freeze up almost immediately, I was able to install Ubuntu Server fine but nothing with a gui...I read some tips about using just core 0 for the install and selecting usb for the drive type for install but still no luck. I'm running dual Xeon E5-2650v2 with 64gb ram on a supermicro x9dri Edited April 1, 20197 yr by s.lamoureux
April 1, 20197 yr Give an entire single core to the VM (doesn't have to be the 1st one). You didn't state how you're viewing the VM front end. I've installed many different VM's with their graphical UI using NoVLC without issue.
April 1, 20197 yr Author I am viewing it with the VNC Remote. I selected an entire core, install from usb, used the seabios and cannot use any gui installer. When the menu comes up and I click on install there's a lag and then I'll get the loading icon from my mouse pointer like it's going to work and then it just freezes up. That was with Ubuntu Mate, Mint will load to the desktop and pop up with an icon saying it's in software rendering mode and it's extremely laggy, clicking on the install icon does nothing. CentOS will load to the first part of the gui installer but it says it can't find the install medium and I'm unable to click on anything. Edited April 1, 20197 yr by s.lamoureux
April 2, 20197 yr Author that is not an option from the OS install CDRom Bus selector. Edited April 2, 20197 yr by s.lamoureux
April 2, 20197 yr Change "OS install CDRom Bus" to SATA and don't pass through the ATEN until after the install. Edited April 2, 20197 yr by jbartlett
April 2, 20197 yr Author Same results...I can see that the cores are maxing out in my dashboard but it won't move on to the next screen after I click install. The only difference this time is that the mouse pointer animation is spinning longer than before when it would just freeze. Its been going for about 10mins now though and stuck on the first step still. I also tried using a different cpu but same outcome. Edited April 2, 20197 yr by s.lamoureux
