DigitalDivide
I have a Seagate FreeAgent 1TB external Desktop drive which I really no longer use. I was wondering if I could open up the case, take out the drive and pop it into my Server and preclear it? Anyone know if it would be a regular SATA drive? Link to comment
SSD
Don't have specific experience with that drive, but in general - "yes" you can crack open an external drive and harvest the drive inside. But, unless you find a website posting instructions, it will be harder than you would believe to get to the drive without destroying it, and you will utterly destroy the enclosure in the process. Engineers that design these things must take demonic pleasure in making these cases impenatrable. You will also likely have no warranty. Link to comment
neilt0
Which model FreeAgent is it? Post a pic if you can find one. I had two of these (1.5TB) and cracked both open to put in my server. WD MyBooks are easy to open. Seagate FreeAgents are horrible. Lots of swearing and cutting. The case was competely destroyed. But, I did get the drives out and am using them fine. Link to comment
