Unraid Failing Initial Parity Check

Featured Replies

I am trying to set up an Unraid server and it fails during the initial parity check . The screen shows some lines from the error log but I cannot SSH into the server to download it, I cannot access the server through the Web Page, I cannot even ping the server.

On the unraid CLI the cursor is just flashing and right above it I see "end trace".

So Im not even sure where to start here.  Mind you this is my first unraid system and Im not really a linux guy so the more detailed the better or I will probably ask follow up questions.  I appreciate any help I can get.   Here are my specs

Unraid Version: 6.7.2  (Also tried 6. 7 .1 and same issue)

HDDs in Aray: 2 4 TB Western Digital Red NAS HDDs  One added as parity

Cache Drive: Crucial P1 500GB 3D NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD

MOBO:  ASRock AB350M PRO4 MicroATX Motherboard

CPU: AMD RYZEN 5 1600 6-Core 3.2 GHz (3.6 GHz Turbo) Socket AM4 65W

Graphics Card: MSI Gaming GeForce GT 710 2GB GDRR3

RAM: G.SKILL Aegis 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000

Thanks again

Have you done memtest? On the boot menu.

No.  But I will do it now.

So when I run this and if there are failing addresses then that means the memory is bad and I need to replace it?

Ryzen systems can be picky about BIOS settings. Have you done the necessary tweaks to help stability? Also, RAM compatibility can be an issue, and overclocking the RAM by accident is also a thing.

It means something is wrong hardware-wise. Usually you will have multiple memory modules and multiple slots. Could just need reseating, could be a bad memory module, could even be some problem with the motherboard. Or could be something like jonathanm mentioned.

Any errors at all in memtest are absolutely unacceptable. Everything goes through memory.

So it seems one of my memory sticks was bad.  After testing one at a time I was able to find the bad one.

The parity is now set up but I am now seeing a warning next to my parity disk.  When I hover over it I see "Parity is invalid"

I have two Western DIgital Red Drives 4TBs each.

One set as parity and one set as disk.  How do find out why?

Parity is invalid until it is built. Once it has finished building, then it will be valid. It can't be valid if it hasn't been built yet.
