Remote Access

Featured Replies

How can I set up my Unraid Server to have remote access. i.e. on the other side of the city or in another country

Specifically, in 2 cases.

First one is I would like to be able to move files to and from the server.

Second, I would like to be able to read the files while they are on the server as well.

I can do this in Windows , while the pc and server are in the same local network, but if there is an app or web link i can do everything from ( ie. the app or link works regardless of location and network), that would also be super helpful.

NextCloud / Owncloud come to mind for an app.

A VPN is another option.  Wireguard (via 6.8) or OpenVPN

@Nelson Check out the Spaceinvader One YouTube channel for videos on setting up the solutions mentioned above by Squid as well as lots of videos on unRAID configuration in general.  It's a treasure trove of information.

I personally use OpenVPN and ZeroTier for remote access to unRAID server and files and am trying out WireGuard in the 6.8.0 release candidate.  All are good solutions, but, with WireGuard being baked into unRAID (it is currently just a plugin) in the future it may become the go-to solution.
