November 24, 201015 yr Hey Everybody, Been using unRAID for half a year now, love it. Newegg black friday deal made it the day finally. Wanting to upgrade to pro or plus if need be. Would anybody be interested in going in with me on the 2 key deal? Figured with the 10 bucks off its 69.50 each. Or for plus its 44.50 each. Anyone interested in going in? Thanks Rob
November 24, 201015 yr I would be but are you sure limetech is ok with that? I think the licensing 2 pack is still 1 user?
November 24, 201015 yr I too think that's an abuse of the 2 key package. Wouldn't be surprised if they look down on that practice.
November 24, 201015 yr Author aww, bummer. I remember reading a post somewhere that they said it was okay, only reason I posted on here to ask. If it's definitely frowned upon, i'll gladlly retract the post and buy it on my own.
November 24, 201015 yr The main issue is that both keys will be under one name, so if the second person ever needed official support from LimeTech, they would have no way of proving that they actually purchased the software. Then again, I don't think many of us count on official support from LimeTech when this forum is so awesome.
November 24, 201015 yr Raj, How do you handle this when you build a custom box for someone? Do you install the software or require the end user to purchase and install them self? I would think the Lime would support the reselling of licenses if it increases sales overall. Akin to Microsoft selling software and IBM, HP, etc. bundling that software with hardware. Based on forum requests it seems that Lime cannot keep up with hardware demand. Lime does not even market rack mount systems for which I believe there is untapped demand. -David
November 25, 201015 yr I make the client buy unRAID directly from LimeTech so that the license will be in their name. The simpler but more expensive option is for the client to buy a pre-configured flash drive from LimeTech and then ship it to me (or have LimeTech ship it to me). The more complicated but cheaper option is for me to purchase a flash drive (or the client purchases a flash drive and has it shipped to me). I then provide the client with the GUID. The client can then use the GUID to buy an unRAID license. The client then emails me the .key file when they receive it from LimeTech. I then install unRAID and the .key file on the flash drive. Both ways work fine, both have about the same amount of lag time, and LimeTech makes money either way. I'm also happy to sell servers without no unRAID license and let the client configure unRAID on their own, but so far no one has wanted to do it that way (not too surprising, I guess).
