Pharmtech78
I recently replaced 2 drives that failed. But I'm unable to start the array. One of the slots continue to say "wrong" after choosing the new drive and won't give me the blue dot "new device" like the other slot is giving. Any help would be appreciated. server-diagnostics-20200105-0255.zip Quote Link to comment
trurl
Were you hoping to recover any of the data those disks had? Since you only have single parity you can only rebuild 1 disk at a time. Do you still have the "failed" disks? What evidence do you have that they actually failed instead of some other problem like a bad connection? Quote Link to comment
Pharmtech78
Yes i would like to recover data from the 2 disks. I do still have both failed drive. One drive would make clicking sounds and is not recognized by unraid while the other would just show up as "device disabled, contents emulated". I've tried a few different slots, but both drives continue to have the same issues. Quote Link to comment
trurl
The disabled disk is the one Unraid wants to rebuild. In order to do that, it must be able to read ALL of the other disks, including that other one that is clicking. How exactly did you get into this position? Can you give more details about when each disk began to show problems? Do you have backups of anything important and irreplaceable? Quote Link to comment
trurl
It might be possible to get Unraid to rebuild that other disk instead, but it is unclear how successful that might be without more details. Probably that is the only choice though if that other disk is truly dead. SMART for the disabled disk looks OK. Quote Link to comment
Pharmtech78
I had to relocate my server a few months ago due to moving into a new home. Those 2 drives were pulled from external enclosures and i knew i had to replace them with better NAS drives. But maybe a few weeks ago or more the first drive failed. I went ahead and bought a replacement drive. I didn't change out the drive right away because I've been so busy getting my home situated. Unfortunately the second drive failed while waiting to replace the first drive. What steps would i need to take to attempt to rebuild? If i can't recover the data then I'll just move forward. trurl
Double check all connections first, then to rebuild disk13 instead of the disabled disk11 see this post: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/86439-my-10tb-disabled-itself-and-now-my-4tb-did-on-rebuild/?do=findComment&comment=801957 except you would use invalidslot 13 29 Quote Link to comment
trurl
Forgot to ask, since you have more disks than I wanted to look at. Are any of your other disks showing SMART warnings on the Dashboard? Quote Link to comment
