manderso
I'm seeing these events in my log at least once per minute: Quote Jan 31 12:26:01 Tower kernel: ata3.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x0 Jan 31 12:26:01 Tower kernel: ata3.00: failed command: READ DMA EXT Jan 31 12:26:01 Tower kernel: ata3.00: cmd 25/00:08:00:44:f2/00:00:1b:00:00/e0 tag 0 dma 4096 in Jan 31 12:26:01 Tower kernel: res 50/00:00:af:44:f2/00:00:1b:00:00/50 Emask 0x40 (internal error) Jan 31 12:26:01 Tower kernel: ata3.00: status: { DRDY } Jan 31 12:26:01 Tower kernel: ata3.00: configured for UDMA/100 Jan 31 12:26:01 Tower kernel: sd 3:0:0:0: [sdb] tag#0 UNKNOWN(0x2003) Result: hostbyte=0x00 driverbyte=0x08 Jan 31 12:26:01 Tower kernel: sd 3:0:0:0: [sdb] tag#0 Sense Key : 0x5 [current] Jan 31 12:26:01 Tower kernel: sd 3:0:0:0: [sdb] tag#0 ASC=0x21 ASCQ=0x4 Jan 31 12:26:01 Tower kernel: sd 3:0:0:0: [sdb] tag#0 CDB: opcode=0x28 28 00 1b f2 44 00 00 00 08 00 Jan 31 12:26:01 Tower kernel: print_req_error: I/O error, dev sdb, sector 468861952 Jan 31 12:26:01 Tower kernel: Buffer I/O error on dev sdb, logical block 58607744, async page read I think it's about my sli raid card, which has been fine for some time, but no longer. I'm attaching my diagnostics log. Is there something I can do here? Looks like there's going to be a problem w/ my drive connected to the raid card in the future, so any help here would be great. Thanks tower-diagnostics-20200131-1222.zip I was getting the above error, though it was talking about my sata raid card. I attempted to clear it up by disabling iommu in syslinux.cfg, but the drives didn't show after a reboot. Same thing happened when I disabled the virtual settings in my bios. So, I disconnected the storage disks from the sata raid card, and connected them to the onboard sata connections. I also connected my cache drive to the sata raid card (as I'm out of sata ports on the mobo). I'm now getting Unmountable: Unsupported partition layout as the file system status on the cache drive, so that's not great. I don't mind wiping the cache drive if need be. Can anyone help w/ all this mess? Thanks Edited January 31, 2020 by manderso added more context Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Those SIL controllers are quite old and not recommended for some time, still it could be a cable/connection issue, try replacing the SATA cable, or swapping ports with one of the disks. Quote Link to comment

Can you recommend an inexpensive 4 port card, or point to someone who can? I can't tell how up to date this is: https://wiki.unraid.net/Hardware_Compatibility#PCI_IDE_Controllers Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Not many 4 port options, there's the old Adaptec 1430SA which still works fine (but not good for SSDs), and newer ones with 4 or 5 port based on the JMB585 chipset, these are rather recent but all indications so far is that they are reliable, though you can usually get a used 8 port LSI HBA for around the same price.
