February 19, 20206 yr I tried installing this card into a machine and booting into unraid, but the drives aren't recognized. Has anyone used this card with unraid? Is this compatible? I am guessing I need to 'flash to IT mode' as indicated in some posts, but not sure how to accomplish that.. Any pointers? Edited February 19, 20206 yr by Alb0t
February 19, 20206 yr That's a MegaRAID controller, unlikely to be flashable to IT mode, you might still be able to use it by creating a raid0 for each disk, but it's not recommended, for example if you change controller in the future Unraid won't accept the disks.
February 19, 20206 yr That's a MegaRAID controller While still true just noticed it uses the 3408 chip, so it might be flashable to IT mode, similar to the 9240-8i which is also a MegaRAID by default but can be flashed to 9211 IT.
February 19, 20206 yr Author I'm having a rough time finding any firmware for SAS3408. I found a post suggesting that IT mode might be present in some version of this firmware https://www.broadcom.com/products/storage/host-bus-adapters/sas-nvme-9400-8i but I don't see any kind of indication that the firmware listed here actually supports IT mode. How does one know if a firmware supports IT mode? They don't make this easy do they..
February 19, 20206 yr Author This guy managed to cross-flash and now is selling it on ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/LSI-9400-8i-Lenovo-530-8i-12Gbps-Tri-Mode-SAS-SATA-NVMe-HBA-P9-IT-mode-ZFS/163533879633 "They have been cross-flashed to Avago / LSI 9400-8i Tri-Mode IT (Initiator Target) firmware version P9 (specifically 09.00.03.00)." but yeah looking at the 9400-8i page I don't see anything mentioning IT mode, or that specific version. I'm guessing they removed that firmware since its probably out of date, but now wondering if the firmware up there supports IT mode.

August 6, 20241 yr Good day! There is a controller HBA firmware version P22 Connected to a black plane with 24 disks The BIOS is set to UEFI mode, but the controller does not see a single disk out of the 16 inserted into the black plane. The LSI Storage Authority utility also does not show a single disk. What could be the problem? We have another machine with the same controller and black plane, but everything works there. The only difference is that there are SAC disks there and here are SATA
