December 21, 201015 yr Hello, I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why I cannot stream bluray (in folder structure) to my HTPC from my unRaid server. Many users are doing it just fine and I am not convinced it is necessarily an unRaid problem... I have searched and cannot find an answer, here is my setup: Server: Core2Duo E7500 Gigabyte EP43-UD3L 4 drives: Hitachi 1tb, Seagate Barracuda 1tb, WD Caviar 1tb, Samsung 1tb User shares enabled, file structure: /share folder /movie title /movie folders Split set to level 2 D-link DIR-655 router (server and HTPC are hard wired) HTPC: i3 540 Asus H55-M Pro Samsung 500gb hdd I am using TMT3 as my player and was using Media Browser in WMC7. I tried uninstalling Media Browser with no effect. I am able to play discs flawlessly, and if I copy the movie locally it plays fine. Additional info: I am on GigE at both ends. Ping tests show <1ms latency I have tried enabling jumbo frames. (not sure if I need to change settings in the router...) I can stream internet providers just fine: Hulu, Netflix, etc... Any suggestions are welcome, I would rather not change to WHS!
December 21, 201015 yr Are you sure both ends are connected at GigE? What kind of file copy speeds do you get when copying from the HTPC to the unRAID server? Check the Troubleshooting link in my sig to post a syslog! I have the same motherboard, though I can't test with any bluray content as I don't have any content. I have not had any trouble streaming 720p content to a XBMC frontend.
December 21, 201015 yr Author Thanks, I'll post one up when I go home for lunch today but I think I'm running short on Valium for step 10! When I run: ethtool eth0 it returns 1000 T full for the current connection on the unraid box, are you thinking that it may not be?
December 22, 201015 yr Author I think I finally solved the issue and as I suspected it is not an unraid issue. I was digging deeper into the driver settings on the HTPC and disabled "Interrupt Moderation", problem solved!
December 22, 201015 yr I think I finally solved the issue and as I suspected it is not an unraid issue. I was digging deeper into the driver settings on the HTPC and disabled "Interrupt Moderation", problem solved! Score another thanks to Windows!! Glad you got it figured out. I would have never found that setting nor what it does. I don't spend (i.e. try not to spend) to much time using a Windows machine.
December 22, 201015 yr Author I know what you mean! Funny thing is, my windows machine connects like a charm to the unraid where my Ubuntu machine take a little more work. I was originally going to use Mythbuntu as my frontend but my wife is much more familiar with windows so decided on that route...
December 23, 201015 yr I dual boot - xbmc live (installed on hdd) and win7 for this reason. xbmc seemed faster on linux (Acer Revo) Tony
December 23, 201015 yr Author Does XBMC support a tv tuner? I get my tv from a QAM signal. Or how about Netflix and HULU?
December 24, 201015 yr I just did the modulation setting, and it may have helped, but I still have the problem. I have pauses; audio skipping; audio lip synch off. I am on version 4.5, beta 6. any thoughts if upgrading Unraid will help this problem? Other thoughts? BTW...this seems to be a relatively 'new' problem. I've played Avatar with no problems, and I have it playing right now, and am having some pauses. I'm beginning to think about giving up on the HTPC. Seems there is always something. I may see if I can find another device that will replace the HTPC, that will still pull movies off the Unraid...if there is anything.
December 24, 201015 yr There have been several bug fixes included in the versions between 4.5 beta 6 and 4.6 final. I don't recall where there were performance gains, if it was in later beta stages than beta 6 or not, but there were some nice performance boosts to be had late in the 4.5 series. Overall the bug fixes are worth upgrading to 4.6 for.
December 25, 201015 yr OK. I do suspect that the next logical thing to try is upgrading. I'll read up on that process. Oh, what about a cache drive? Would addition of a cache drive help this problem? [EDIT] From what I've just read, it seems that the cache disk is to improve writes, not reads, so it seems that won't help my problem. I just finished upgrading to 4.6. Will test in a while and see how it goes.
December 25, 201015 yr Oh, what about a cache drive? Would addition of a cache drive help this problem? The cache drive is ONLY used when writing to the array. If you are not writing to the array, it will have absolutely no effect.
