When i go to install the macos VM - following @SpaceInvaderOne video - i keep getting the error "Apple recovery server is unable to be contacted". 

 

I've tested the network connection in the VM and can see that I can't ping apple.com but 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 both work. I've updated the XML file switching the interface from vmxnet3 to e1000-82545em but nothing seems to work.

During install the interface must be vmxnet3. I found that e1000-82545em didnt work during install. But after install its best to switch to e1000-82545em.

 

If you cant download from the apple servers (this seems to happen at times.)

Just keep trying and it should connect then download. I installed a macOS vm yesterday without issue.

Thanks for that, I've tried quite a few times with no luck. 

 

I'm thinking it might be a DNS issue as to why I can't connect. I know I've definitely got internet access but no matter what I still can't install it. I've changed the bus and slot to see that would help didn't seem to. 

 

Is there anything specific that needs to be set in the unRAID network settings that might be stopping it from working?

Still having this issue. I can't install any MacOS VM as they all come back with that same error. I've tried changing all i can in the XML. My server definitely has internet access, i think it might have something to do with the VM network bridge that's unable to receive internet access...?

Same problem here. No matter what and how often i try, it just can never contact the recovery server. The (macinabox based) vm has an ip address, i can ping outside and in and even browse from it. But it just NEVER gets to connect... really frustrating.

Oh man... tried everything, other network configs, setting datetimes etc etc. My network runs over a vpn, even disconnected that in case apple did not allow being called from a vpn. Nothing helped. And just now i got another final brainfart, what if... my adblocker is messing things up? I’m running pihole (thanks spaceinvader!) as a docker on unraid, and once i disabled that... the installer now can find what it needs and it is installing Catalina now...
