January 2, 201115 yr Hi Guys, I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but this tip has been working for me thus far. This command stops Apple computers from creating .DS_Store files when browsing network drives. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1629
January 2, 201115 yr But a lot of others remain, like ._<filename>, .AppleDouble, etc... HFS+ has extended resource forks associated with files and writes those in ._files in case the underlying filesystem don't support those natively. .DS_Store is however solely for the Finder (colors, size of that respective folder)... By deleting those you are sacrificing Mac OS X functionality. Like you can rename a file in the Finder and an associated Application will still find its source (thanks to .DS_Store). Seriously, there is no point in deleting those, maybe the only exception files being produced on a Mac to be used with Win computers exclusively.
January 3, 201115 yr I have stopped them from being create from my computer for Network shares. I also created a script that is installable via unMenu for deleting these "normally hidden" files.
August 16, 201114 yr I have stopped them from being create from my computer for Network shares. How? I would really like to disable this option on my wife's Mac, but I cant find it, google has not been of much help either. Where is this option in Mac?
