G Speed
So.... I have no idea what happening... anything wrong in this time frame?? This is what happens exactly after startup.. when I typed in http://tower/log/syslog the same type of thing happens it just lost connection for a minute Jan 3 22:14:54 Tower emhttp: shcmd (33): /etc/rc.d/rc.nfsd start | logger Jan 3 22:15:24 Tower kernel: REISERFS (device md3): replayed 238 transactions in 126 seconds Jan 3 22:15:24 Tower kernel: REISERFS (device md3): Using r5 hash to sort names Jan 3 22:15:25 Tower emhttp: shcmd (35): rm /etc/samba/smb-shares.conf >/dev/null 2>&1 Jan 3 22:15:25 Tower emhttp: shcmd (36): cp /etc/exports- /etc/exports Jan 3 22:15:25 Tower emhttp: shcmd (37): killall -HUP smbd Jan 3 22:15:25 Tower emhttp: shcmd (38): /etc/rc.d/rc.nfsd restart | logger Jan 3 22:17:04 Tower kernel: mdcmd (18): nocheck Jan 3 22:17:04 Tower kernel: md: md_do_sync: got signal, exit... Joe L.
Nothing wrong specifically, but it appears the server was not stopped and cleanly shut down prior to this start The file-system had journal entries it had to replay before the file-system could be mounted. Jan 3 22:15:24 Tower kernel: REISERFS (device md3): replayed 238 transactions in 126 seconds It took just over 2 minutes... I've seen it take as long as 15 on a huge disk with a lot of transactions to replay. It seems like you canceled the parity check it had started. Link to comment
G Speed
well what happened was theunraid server is in the basement, so when I lost connection to it I couldn't telnet to it or anything so I had to just hold the power button and shut it down... then I started it back up, stopped the check.. I'm doing the check now, and I just watched two shows on the server no problem? What happened before was I was watching a show via my wdtv.. and at the same time transferring files from my computer to the box... show froze and computer said connection timed out <--- couldn't telnet or anything to it... PCRx
I'd run memtest to be sure your RAM is not faulty. Random freezing is usually RAM or PSU issue. Link to comment
G Speed
did a memtest... got bored no errors so stopped it lol... psu is a new 500watt corsair.. during parity check on 5 drives.. it only uses 100watts max Will play around more with it... had a parity check going last night... looked in log.. nothing crazy "a bunch of errors" from transfers stopping half way and me doing a hard shut down... then when I left for work this morning, got it running again... to see if any new errors will come up? BRiT
Memtest needs to run for at least 1 hour perhaps 2 to run through all of the tests at least once. It's best if you let it run for 9 - 12 hours overnight or when you're at work. How long did you let it run? Link to comment
G Speed
3 hours... no errors... I had been using this ram previously for 4 years with no problems i'm at work right now, so I will see if I have any errors after the check... or if the system is still running Link to comment

BRiT
Your syslog snippet posted does not show any network connectivity issues. Have you tried troubleshooting your client PC networking? Link to comment
G Speed
i'm starting to think more and more it's my PC... For some reason I have a huge bottle neck on my computer once it's doing anything that requires 25mbps I'm transferring movies from an external hd it's going right now at 25.8MB/Sec When I try and cut and paste a movie to my unraid server it pretty much does this.. probably will work fine when my main computer isn't doing any transfers Link to comment
G Speed
and there we go server is down again... started a parity check.. closed the window... tried to log back in.. couldn't connect via ip.. went downstairs plugged in monitor and keyboard... nadda no connection on monitor no lights on keyboard Link to comment
G Speed
more info.. still can't put anything in the movie folder? but the tv folder works fine? Movie Folder shows 4.1TB free? Could be something to do with highwater? i'm almost at the split point? to jump to disk 4? Movie share is set to exclude only disk5 Link to comment
Joe L.
what do you have the min-free set to for that user-share? Link to comment
G Speed
what do you have the min-free set to for that user-share? 15728640 I just don't get it.. it's been working fine for the whole night now? I started to transfer tv shows to disk 5.. then all of a sudden disk 3 now works As of the past 2-3 hours... I have been transferring movies to the server non stop.. using disk3 then filled up to the high water point and it started to fill disk 4... and also transferring tv shows to disk5 at the same time, my parents where watching some shows.. and my gf and I watched a movie..
