binar Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 Fellow Forum Members, I am in the process of setting up my UnRaid Array for the first time. I noticed a small orange triangle next to the Parity drive and it reads: "Parity is invalid. Click to spin down device" What usually causes this message to appear? And once I spin the drive down do I need to start all over again with the parity process? What is the fix to prevent this message from appearing again? Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Quote
trurl Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 Parity is invalid until parity is built. Once it has finished building it will become valid and the warning will be gone. "Spin Down" is just telling you how you can spin down any disk. If you mouseover any of the other disks it will say the same. No point in spinning anything down now though since all disks must be read to build parity. Quote
binar Posted May 25, 2020 Author Posted May 25, 2020 Constructor, Thank you very much for your post. I honestly thought I had to start the entire parity process all over again which gave me a sick feeling. So I got 5 hours to go. After the parity process is done in five hours all I have to do is format the drives and then in theory my parity drive should no longer show that orange triangle anymore. Am I correct? Quote
JorgeB Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 They'll turn green as soon as the parity sync finishes, independent of the disks being formatted or not, though you need to format them before use, and that can be done at any time, before or after the sync finishes. Quote
