frodr Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 cpu`s on a dual cpu motherboard? Also combining cpu`s from different generation Scalable. Hope anyone can shed some light on this issue. Cheers, Frode Quote
Jacko_ Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 I believe both CPUs need to be the same generation. You'll also want to balance the memory across the CPUs as well. Quote
ghost82 Posted July 7, 2020 Posted July 7, 2020 (edited) Take care when choosing the second cpu. One of my e5-2687w failed and I bought a new used one: it was the same e5-2687w differing only in stepping; first one was QB7R (quality sample), "new" one was the official SR0KG. I read somewhere that stepping wasn't important but my setup was not booting, linux nor windows (linux complaining about syncing, windows about incompatible cpu bsod). Finally only by replacing the QB7R with another used SR0KG I was able to boot again. So my advice is to install the same cpus, stepping included. Edited July 7, 2020 by ghost82 Quote
