KouKaVaniLLa
Hello I'm just installing Unraid for trial and I would like to create a mirroring with 2 disks (2x2To) I have selected my 2 drive in Disk 1 and Disk 2 but why I cannot choose to make a RAID1 ? I have 4To available. It is not normal with a mirroring. Can you help me ? Quote Link to comment
trurl
Unraid IS NOT RAID. However, if you only have a single parity drive and a single data drive, it is effectively a mirror. Just reassign that disk in slot2 to the parity slot instead. Quote Link to comment
trurl
Do you already have any data on the array? Quote Link to comment
KouKaVaniLLa
No I haven't data yet Quote Link to comment
trurl
Go to Tools - New Config and reassign your disks as parity and disk1. When you start the array it will build parity. When you only have one data disk then parity is a mirror of that disk, just because of how parity is calculated. Quote Link to comment
KouKaVaniLLa
Ok ok I understand. If one drive failed, it's ok with this parity ? Quote Link to comment
trurl
yes To get an idea of how Unraid parity is different than RAID, look in the bottom right corner of the webUI, there is a link to the manual. Quote Link to comment
KouKaVaniLLa
Thanks a lot What is the advantage to make this vs raid1 with trueNAS or Openmediavault for exemple ? Quote Link to comment
trurl
If you only have parity and one data disk then it is RAID1. One advantage of Unraid is when you add more data disks they don't have to be all the same size. Quote Link to comment
KouKaVaniLLa
Ok ok ... for now I just have 2x2To. First for parity and the second for "data" .... I will see after trial if I buy it ... :) thank you Quote Link to comment
