Choosing a UPS

Featured Replies

So I am trying to choose an UPS to get,
My NAS draws max less than 100w and even with upgrades probably will draw max 150w.
I have not experienced brownouts or surges as I know of.

the current list of UPSes I have been looking at is:

Eaton Powerware 5E 650VA/850VA
APC Back-UPS BE650G2/BE850G2
APC Back-UPS BX700U/BX950U
Eaton Ellipse ECO 650/ECO 800
Eaton Powerware 5S 700i

The BX700U dont seem to have replacable battery?

Some stuff I red on internet turned me off Cyberpower, like for example some say their one failing to detect batteries that are bad. But if I am not sure....

How important is replaceable battery?

In terms of investment return, very.

Also, I'd suggest you look at the Smart-UPS line and NOT the Back-UPS models from APC. The former are pure sine-wave units.
Also, check ebay for fresh refurbs.  The SUA1500, SMT1500, and SMX1500 units (tower or rack style) can be had for not a lot of scratch with fresh batteries.

Finally, check out a company called RefurbUPS (http://www.refurbups.com). I've done a lot of business with them over the years, they refurb units with good quality batteries, and they ship insanely fast.  You do pay for shipping though, and I've never had a single problem with a shipment from them.  If anything, they OVER pack sometimes. :D

Smart UPS is too expensive, and 1500 VA is way overkill for my needs.

I have red other places that pure sine way is not needed unless whatever you connect to it is old.
Ebay isnt really a thing in my country. The site for used things here is dont have any Smart UPS listed.
Also, that site listed is also an US site, so dont work for me.

BTW, does it matter if its Offline UPS or Line Interactive really?

Does it matter if its True sine wave or not?

I have this APC Back-UPS model and it works great with unRAID.  It just says "Sine Wave" and not "True Sine Wave" but I have had zero problems with it and it has properly protected and shut down my unRAID server on two or three ocassions.  Whatever it is, it does not appear to be simulated or modified sine wave which produces a "dirtier" power signal than pure sine wave to attached equipment.

AVR (automatic voltage regulation) may be more important than the waveform shape if you do not have clean, consistent power.

Here are the specs from the manual:
