craigr
This started after the last Windows update, but I can't say for certain if it was the cause (I think it was). I'm really in the dark on this one. When I am in my Windows 10 VM and I try to restart it, my entire unRAID box becomes totally unresponsive, no SMB, no SSH, no web GUI, no hard drive activity from the dockers. The network adapter LED's and fans are all that I get on the server. The only way to can restore operating again is to do a hard reset by holding the power button down until the machine powers off and then powering it up again. Any ideas where to look? This is unbearable Thanks craigr Quote Link to comment

craigr
It looks like I may have solved it by disabling MSI for my video and HDMI audio. Does that make any sense? craigr Edited November 20, 2020 by craigr Quote Link to comment
craigr
I'll talk to myself some more It is my USB controller. Something with Windows keeps kicking the Fresco drivers out and restoring MS drivers. When that happens everything goes to hell. Is there a way to stop Win10 from automatically installing what it thinks are better drivers? I'd like Win10 to just leave the thing alone. What really threw me off was that I got the machine to a place where I could shutdown Windows10 without crashing the server but I was getting the, "internal error: Unknown PCI header type '127' for device '0000:06:00.0'." This of course pointed to my video card. But, after removing the USB card and redoing my VFIO-PCI Config, everything seems to be working fine now. This USB card worked perfectly for months and now all of a sudden WTF? So I tried a different Fresco 1100 card I also have here and it's having the same problem. Previously it worked perfectly too. craigr Quote Link to comment
craigr
Finally I looked at device manager by resources (while the Fresco 1100 was removed) and I deleted all devices and their drivers that were not currently connected in device manager (I also found some device I was not familiar with that did not have a driver installed so used the virtio driver for it). I then reinstalled the Fresco USB controller, redid my VFIO-PCI config again, re-edited my XML, started up the VM, and allowed Windows to install the 1100 on its own with the Fresco driver that comes with Windows 10 as of September 2020. Now everything is working perfectly again even through extensive testing. I think I'm good, but what the hell happened I do not know. Big time waster. craigr Quote Link to comment
