  • Deleting a share "copied" settings to another share

A few days ago I deleted a share called "Arq". Today I was shocked to discover that the "domains" share had been altered. At least two settings were mysteriously copied from the deleted share to the "domains" share: Comments and Primary storage settings.

The "domains" share was previously set to never move to the array. Now it was suddenly set to move all to array. Luckily, the mover had taken no action. That is probably because all the files on the share were in use by a running VM.

I have now changed the settings on the "domains" share back to what it was before (as far as I can remember what it was).

Btw, the deleted "Arq" share was right above the "domains" share in case that matters.

This seems like a very bad bug. Can you investigate, please?

I cannot reproduce this, if you manage to do it again please post all the steps needed.

Since the settings for each share are stored in different .cfg files on the flash drive difficult to see quite how this could happen!   Does not mean, however, that some strange sequence of events cannot cause it.

I will. But there really was only one step: Deleting a share. At least I'm not aware that I did anything else that could have cause this.

I've really been trying to think if I could have caused this myself. I know that I did not touch the "domains" share on purpose in any way. Could I have accidentally used the "Write settings to..." in the now deleted share? I highly doubt it. I am 100% sure I did not copy the comment over myself. It was way too specific.

Anyway, I will report back if I notice anything else.

Maybe browser autocomplete "helping" you by populating fields with previous content?

They are stored individually. But are they also written individually? I don't know the implementation but it could be that the settings for all shares are kept together in memory and then all are written to disk even if only one changes.

I just checked and there is no autocomplete for me in Chrome on those pages. I tend to turn all that off if possible since it generally annoys me. 😝
